During our stop at the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park near Hodgenville, Kentucky, we took some time to go inside the Visitor Center. It had a few interesting items on display and a small gift shop. And air conditioning, which was much appreciated on the day of our visit.
Yes, although this post is titled “Inside the Abraham Lincoln Birthplace Visitor Center”, this photo was actually taken outside, because that is where the sign was located.
On a trip through Kentucky, we visited Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park south of Hodgenville to see where our 16th president was born.
The Abraham Lincoln Birthplace features a log cabin inside a marble Memorial Building on the site of the farm where Lincoln was born. The structure is on top of a hill, which makes it look even more imposing. While perhaps not quite as large as the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC, this site was actually built first, leading to its alternate name of The First Lincoln Memorial.
You may remember that we visted the Lincoln-Douglas debate site in Jonesboro, Illinois, and we have also visited the debate site at Quincy. Continuing our quest to visit all of the Lincoln-Douglas debate sites 1, we also stopped at the Lincoln-Douglas debate site in Charleston, Illinois, which included a small museum.
The Charleston debate between Abraham Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas was held on September 18, 1858, just three days after the Jonesboro debate.

During a trip through Illinois in December 2023, Laura and I stopped by the Lincoln-Douglas debate site in Jonesboro. As you may know, we both like history, and Abraham Lincoln is one of my favorite subjects. This site was not too far off of our path, and it was great to be able to stop by for a few minutes.

During our July 2023 visit to Washington, I wanted to be sure to see the Lincoln Memorial. I have long admired our 16th President. His way of thinking, his sense of humor, and his compassion are always admirable to me. Perhaps you remember how we found a Lincoln site in Tolono, Illinois, or our visit to one of the Lincoln-Douglas Debate sites.
