Poinciana Tree in Mexico

A street view in Cozumel, Mexico

A poinciana tree reaches out over a street in Cozumel, Quintana Roo, Mexico, as seen during our 2022 Disney Cruise.

When the Disney Fantasy docked in Cozumel during our cruise, we did not have any plans besides exploring some of the town. So we disembarked the ship and went for a walk to see what we could see.

During our walk, we kept seeing trees with bright orange flowers. Because of their color, the trees were quite an attention-grabber. And for me, attention-grabbers mean photo grabbers. So of course, I grabbed my camera and took a few photos.

Once we got home, I decided to look up this tree to see what it is. I used this photo of a flower from the tree as more reference. The flowers were all over the ground, so it was easy to pick one up and get a photo. See, I knew there was a reason that I always take so many photos. They are for future reference!

Side note: I am still always thankful for digital cameras and not being limited by the number of exposures left on your roll of film. Yes, you are limited by your memory card. But one card can hold the equivalent of many, many rolls of film. But I digress.

Anyway, with a little bit of searching, the internet told me it is a poinciana tree. I am sure if that is not correct, someone will correct me. Feel free to do so, I really won’t mind.

One of the fun things about going someplace new is seeing the differences that are there. Some of those differences are cultural, while some of those differences are floral. I like to see the different kinds of trees and flowers in the places that we go. Some of them are similar to what we have at home, and others of them are quite different. The colorful ones do catch my attention, but I try to pay attention to the more normal looking trees, too.

God’s creation is amazing. I say that often, but it is still true. Take some time to notice just how amazing all of that is. Even in your own home area. There is so much out there to see!

The heavens declare the glory of God; the sky displays his handiwork. Day after day it speaks out; night after night it reveals his greatness. - Psalm 19:1-2

About the Photos

When I was beginning to work on this post, I originally just started with the photo of the street. I like street views in general, and I take photos like that to remember what it is like in the places that we visit. But then I remembered the tree and my curiosity over what type of tree it is. And then I remembered the other photos of the same tree type that you see here. So this quickly became a tree post instead of just a street view post. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

These photos did not take all that much work. I did enhance them just a bit to bring out the tree color more, as well as the blue of the sky in two of the three photos. But overall, the photos were great just how they were.
