Koko Crater in the Distance in Hawaii
Koko Crater rises in the distance on the island of Oʻahu in Hawaiʻi, seen from the Makapuʻu Lightouse Trail during our 2023 Hawaiʻi trip.
As we walked up the trail on our way to Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse, we stopped a few times to enjoy the view. And to catch our breath, as it was a slightly steep climb, even though the trail was paved. I loved this view of the shore and Koko Crater off in the distance. The blue water with the white waves at the shore is a perfect foreground companion to the volcanic crater rising in the distance.
According to geologists, Koko Crater is one of several cones formed by eruptions from the Koʻolau Volcano. Koko Crater is probably not as well known as one of the other cones, known either as Lēʻahi or more popularly as Diamond Head.
I often enjoy looking back at our Hawaiʻi 2023 photos, and this one happened to catch my eye as I was looking through photos.
Winding Down
As the year starts to wind down to a close1, so also winding to a close is the Love One Another theme for 2024. There will be a few more posts along that theme, but not that many. But the posts are not going anywhere, of course, so they will be here if you ever need a reminder.
The recent political season here in these United States was just one more example of how we are not always all that united, except in name. Both sides exhibited lots of name calling, threats, hard feelings, and more, none of which exhibited any love for each other at all. I can understand wanting your side to win, but there are still plenty of ways to do that in love.
So we still have lots of work to do toward loving one another. And I suspect it will remain that way until the end of time. But that just means that we have lots of opportunities ahead of us to show love to each other. We can set an example for others to follow. Love will be noticed, and that will encourage others to love others, too.
Set an example of love!
The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. - 1 Timothy 1:5 ESV
About the Photo
As is typical when we have a cold weather spell, I look through photos of warm places. I was actually going to find a beach photo to post, but I saw this view first and decided to go with it. I did use a similar photo in Part 6 of the Trip Report, but this is in fact a different photo. And I liked it enough that I thought it needed sharing on its own, too.
For the photo, I used the standard (for me) heavy color saturation, along with a little bit of Orton effect to give it a slightly dreamy look. Although it does look like something out of a dream to begin with.

Yes, there are still around 6 weeks left in the year, but in the grand scheme of things, that is relatively small. ↩︎
