Fog Over the Tennessee River

We went with a group from our church on a marriage retreat, which was in Florence, Alabama. It was a great weekend spent making our marriages stronger, and I would encourage anyone who can to go to such a thing.

On Saturday morning, I looked out from the balcony of our hotel room, and I saw the scene above. The early morning fog was rising off of the Tennessee River1, and the sunlight was hitting everything just right. So of course, I grabbed my camera and took a photo. And then converted it to black and white. More about that in the About the Photo section below.

Marriage Blessings

In our ongoing discussion of blessings, marriage is one of the biggest blessings I can think of. I hope that if you are married, you feel the same way.

Marriage gives you someone to go through life with, where you can work together to face whatever situations might arise. Marriage gives you someone to encourage, and someone to encourage you. Marriage gives you a purpose so that you do not spend your life focused on yourself.

Marriage is also a journey that you are constantly own. As long as you both live, you never reach the end of the journey. That means that you always have a chance to recover from whatever mistakes you make along the way. And you show your spouse grace when they make mistakes, too. And you can always learn better ways to do things as you go.

Marriage is a wonderful thing full of too many blessings to count.

He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord. - Proverbs 18:22 ESV

About the Photo

Because the sun was aimed right toward us2 everything looked a bit washed out color-wise. It looked that way both to my eyes and through my viewfinder. So it was a pretty easy decision to convert this to black and white, because there was not much color there to begin with. I looked at just reducing the color saturation, but I ultimately decided to go completely monochrome instead.
